A great finish by Indian team, secured a lead of 2-1 in the 3rd Test on 30th Dec 2018. Australia were put to back foot by the first innings score from Indian team. India beat Australia by 137 runs to take the lead in the series. Finally, the Boxing day Test favours to India.
In the first innings they put 443 runs with 7 wickets and declared their innings. Contributions from Mayank Agarwal, 76 runs, and from Cheteshwar Pujara, 106 runs build the root of a great score. Then 82 from Captain Kohli and 63 from Rohit Sharma helped the score to grow more. Among Australian bowlers Pat Cummins were most successful with his 3 wickets. Nathan Lyon can only manage to take 1 wicket in first innings.
Australia’s first innings batting started slowly. None of their batsman can score a single half century and thus they were all out in 151 runs. Jasprit Bumrah bowled fantastically for his 6 wickets which shattered the batting of Aussies.
India came on to bat for their 2nd innings in MCG but that did not go well also. They score 106 runs with 8 wickets and declare their batting with a lead of 399 runs. Only Mayank Agarwal made a handy 42 run’s knock in that innings. Pat Cummins again was the pick of the bowlers as he took 6 wickets in 2nd innings.
But all these performances went in vein when Australia came to bat in their 2nd innings, they had to score 399 to win. But, again they can not stand much in front of the Indian bowling attack. India picked wickets in regular intervals. Only Pat Cummins made a half century in the end. Shaun Marsh started to build a long innings but Bumrah got him struch in front of wickets. Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets each, and Shami – Sharma took 2 wickets each to all out the Aussies in 261. They were defeated by 137 runs.
Captain Kohli now reached the same level with Sourav Ganguly’s record of winning the away test matches for India.
