New Zealand vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI Highlights: NZ won by 21 runs
New Zealand made it 2-0 lead in the three ODI matches against Sri Lanka on 5th January, 2019.
Despite a brilliant innings by Thisara Perera Sri Lanka could not pull it to the mark. NZ won the toss and decided to bat first in Bay Oval ground. Again, a strong batting performance has shown by New Zealand. They put on 319 runs with loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs.
Colin Munro started the innings nicely, made 87 runs for him with a well strike rate of 113. Then, the veteran Ross Taylor scored 90, missed his century by a run out. James Neesham again played an exceptional innings in the last, he made 64 runs in 37 balls. New Zealand put a fighting total to defend.
In reply, Sri Lankan opener Gunathilaka scored 71 runs. But, middle order failed again to deliver a good partnership. At the bottom, the all-rounder Thisara Perera played an exceptional innings. He scored 140 runs in just 74 balls with the help of 13 sixes and 8 fours. This marvellous innings carried the score 298 but failing 21 runs short to victory.
In NZ’s bowling department Ish Sodhi the spinner took 3 wickets, james Henry got 2 in which one of was the danger Thisara Perera. Neesham also took 2 wickets. So, Sri Lankans tried but lose the series to New Zealand. One match is still remaining, SL are hoping to comeback in that one to gain some momentum for the future matches.
